Ronald Witlen completed his two undergraduate degrees (B.A.) from the University of Georgia, triple majoring in Philosophy, Political Science, and International Affairs. He attained his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and Master of Laws in Taxation (L.L.M.) from the University of San Diego. Prior to joining The Burton Law Firm in 2016, Ronald worked for TTV Capital, an Atlanta based venture capital firm investing in FinTech emerging growth companies. During law school, Ronald worked at the Ohara Law Firm in Osaka, Japan, where he was able to advise U.S. multinationals in tax planning, intellectual property rights, and business transactions. He also spent time in Tokyo to study contract drafting and international tax planning, where he assisted an aviation maintenance, repair and operations group in drafting agreements and organizing a U.S. subsidiary.

Since joining The Burton Law Firm, Mr. Witlen has gained significant experience in the areas of Mergers and Acquisitions (taking lead on multimillion dollar deals), Private Equity (advising clients on term sheets, subscription agreements, private placement memorandums, and convertible notes), Non-Profit Law (including corporate governance and tax considerations such as unrelated business income, avoiding inurement, and tax exempt recognition at the state and federal level), Tax Planning, Tax Controversy, Compliance with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act (including advice concerning tied-house restrictions, license transfers, and original license applications), and general transactional matters (including drafting buy-sell agreements, licensing agreements, handling formations, reorganizations, and statutory conversions).

Ronald has been named a “Top Lawyer” by Sacramento Magazine in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
